Discover Goat Island Guides

Tony and Jenny Enderby are experienced guides who have taken school children and interested groups on snorkelling and rocky shore adventures at the Goat Island Marine Reserve for many years.

They are both honorary marine reserve rangers for the Department of Conservation. Tony is a First Response Medic for the Leigh Volunteer Fire Brigade.

Their work in promoting and educating people in the value of protecting the marine environment gained them the Auckland Conservation Award for Awareness and Education in 2006.

DOC Conservation Achievement AwardOther work includes photojournalism specialising in natural history especially marine life and travel. They have published 4 books including an identification guide to the marine life at Goat Island and A Guide to New Zealand’s Marine Reserves. Their articles and photographs have appeared in 90 publications in 10 countries. More information can be found on their website.

Tony has snorkelled since he was at school and completed a CMAS snorkel and Ocean Diver One Star Course in 1975, Ocean Diver Two Star in 1985, and PADI Rescue Diver in 1987. He has completed more than 1500 scuba dives.

He has been a member of the Conchology Section of the Auckland Museum since 1974 and is a past President and current Editor of the Conchology Section’s Poirieria magazine.

Jenny completed her PADI Open Water Scuba Diver Certificate in 1986 and her PADI Advanced Diver and PADI Rescue Diver Courses in 1995. She has completed over 1000 scuba dives.
She has taken school groups snorkelling and exploring the rocky reefs at Goat Island for more than ten years.
